APC urges Tribunal to dismiss LP's petition challenging Tinubu's election, citing illegal sponsorship of Peter Obi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has requested that the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) in Abuja dismiss the petition lodged by the Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi. The petition challenges the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the President-elect in the February 25 election. In a notice of preliminary objection submitted to the PEPC's Secretariat on Monday, the APC urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition with substantial costs, alleging that it lacked merit and was frivolous. The party argued that Obi, as the first petitioner, did not have the requisite locus standi to bring the petition because he was not a member of the LP for at least 30 days before the party's presidential primary, which is necessary for a valid sponsorship by the party.
