Dwayne Wade Sells Miami Mansion Over Transgender Rights Concerns, Buys $22.75M California Estate

 Former NBA player Dwayne Wade and his wife, actress Gabrielle Union, sold their Miami Beach mansion for $22 million in 2021, after nearly two years on the market. The couple had initially listed the property for $32.5 million, but with no offers, they were forced to drop the price by nearly $10 million. The 11,690 square foot waterfront property boasts six bedrooms, 9.5 bathrooms, and numerous luxury amenities, such as a heated pool, tennis court, basketball court, and private boat dock.


Wade and Union bought the property in 2010 for $10.6 million and made a substantial profit upon its sale. However, Wade cited personal reasons for leaving Florida. In an interview with Rachel Nichols, he revealed that he and his family no longer lived in the state due to fears that they would not feel comfortable there. Wade's 15-year-old child, Zaya, came out as a transgender girl in 2020. Despite objections from the biological mother, Wade won a court case in Los Angeles to legally change Zaya's name and gender, claiming it was in the child's best interest.



In addition to their Miami property, the couple also purchased a $22.75 million estate in Hidden Hills, California, in 2020. The sprawling 22,000 square foot property comprises three levels and includes luxury amenities such as a home theater, spa, sauna, wine room, and a 12-car garage with a turntable.



Wade's decision to leave Florida has sparked conversation about transgender rights in the state. He expressed concern that his family would not feel accepted or comfortable there, prompting many to question the state's policies regarding LGBTQ+ individuals. Despite the controversy, the couple seems to have found a new home in California, where they can live comfortably with their family.
