Edwin Clark calls for prosecution of Lai Mohammed over spread of fake news on Peter Obi
Edwin Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information and a prominent leader in the South-South region of Nigeria, has called for the prosecution of the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed. Clark accused Mohammed of spreading fake news against Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
Clark, who is also the leader of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), said that Mohammed had caused divisions in the country during his eight-year tenure as Minister of Information. He criticized the Minister for failing to use his position to unite Nigerians and create an atmosphere of harmony.
In a statement released on Monday, Clark pointed out that he had held the same position as Minister of Information over 48 years ago when he was appointed by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, as Federal Commissioner for Information in 1975. He expressed disappointment that Mohammed had not upheld the principles of the office.
Clark's call for Mohammed's prosecution highlights the growing concern over the spread of fake news in Nigeria and the need for individuals in positions of authority to be held accountable for their actions. It is important for leaders to use their platform to promote unity and not sow division in society.
