IPOB declares sit-at-home on May 30 to honor fallen heroes of Biafra struggle

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called for a sit-at-home in the South-East region of Nigeria on May 30, 2023, to honor fallen heroes who lost their lives during the Biafra struggle. May 30 has been recognized by pro-Biafra agitators and civil war veterans as a day of remembrance for those who died during the civil war that claimed over three million lives.

In a statement released by IPOB's media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, the group emphasized the importance of honoring those who paid the ultimate price for the liberation of Biafra. The sit-at-home is an opportunity to commemorate the fallen heroes who fought for the birth of the Biafra Nation.

The statement also noted that the Nigerian state has removed history from schools and national discourse, making it crucial for IPOB to continue honoring and remembering the sacrifices of the fallen heroes. It encouraged all Biafrans, friends of Biafra, and lovers of Biafra freedom across the world to join in the commemoration of Biafra Heroes Day.

IPOB advised its members to organize and observe the day in any way they consider appropriate while maintaining peace and order. The group requested a three-minute silence during the event to honor those who have paid the ultimate price in the Biafra struggle since 1967.

The sit-at-home is a call to honor the bravery and sacrifices of those who fought for the liberation of Biafra. It is an opportunity to remember their struggles and celebrate their contributions to the Biafran nation.
