Tinubu, Peter Obi congratulate and pay tribute to Afenifere leader Ayo Adebanjo on his 95th birthday

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect, and Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate, have sent congratulatory messages to Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the acting leader of Afenifere, on his 95th birthday. Tinubu praised Adebanjo's consistency in fighting for good governance and social justice in Nigeria, and his leadership role in the Afenifere group. He also commended Adebanjo's contributions to progressive politics and democracy struggles against military dictatorship in NADECO. Tinubu prayed for Adebanjo to witness a new era of a better, stronger, more secure, and prosperous Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Obi said Adebanjo had no bigotry in him and described him as occupying a pride of place in Nigeria. Adebanjo's upbringing prepared him for a balanced view of issues affecting the country, given his father's Christian background and mother's Muslim background. Obi highlighted Adebanjo's activism in Nigerian politics, his legal practice, and journalism career. He also commended Adebanjo's unwavering service to Nigeria, especially in advocating for the cause of Awoism, federalism, and good governance. According to Obi, Adebanjo is the only surviving disciple of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and played a significant role in the formation of NADECO that forced the military out of Nigeria's politics. Obi prayed for Adebanjo's good health and long life to continue his service to Nigeria beyond his father's 105 years.
