Phyna, the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, Josephine Otabor, shared a heartfelt reflection on her childhood and the challenges she faced while growing up. Born in Edo State, Nigeria, Phyna's early years were marked by unique circumstances that shaped her resilience and determination.

At the tender age of three, Phyna's father took her to live with his elder sister in Auchi. Her aunt owned a restaurant, and it was there that Phyna found herself immersed in the world of serving and assisting customers. It was an unusual start to life, as most children her age were still discovering the joys of play and exploration. However, for Phyna, it meant taking on responsibilities far beyond her years.

As she reminisced on her childhood experiences during an episode of The Nancy Isime Show, Phyna revealed that her journey was far from easy. At the age of three, she was already serving men in the restaurant, an experience that exposed her to the realities of life at a very young age. 

Tragedy struck when her father had a severe accident, resulting in Phyna having to put her education on hold. She stood by her father's side, accompanying him from one hospital to another for two long years. This unexpected turn of events forced her to pause her studies in Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3). It was a challenging period for Phyna, who had to grapple with the emotional strain of witnessing her father's suffering while dealing with the disruption to her own education.

Upon returning to school, Phyna encountered another obstacle. The school authorities suggested she go back to SS1 (Senior Secondary School 1) due to her extended absence. However, Phyna, determined to catch up with her peers, made a bold decision. She insisted on joining SS3 and embarked on a journey to prove herself academically.

Undeterred by the setbacks she had faced, Phyna embraced the opportunity to showcase her abilities. She underwent a series of exams, which she successfully passed, proving her commitment and intellectual capabilities. Despite her academic achievements, Phyna's parents recognized the financial constraints they faced in furthering her education. As a result, they made the difficult decision to encourage her to learn a trade.

It was during this pivotal moment in her life that Phyna realized she needed to seize the opportunity to become self-reliant. She fully embraced the concept of hustling and embarked on a journey of entrepreneurship. Attending a federal school with a tuition fee of N14,500, Phyna's determination and resourcefulness shone through. She ventured into making meat pies and buns, showcasing her culinary skills to supplement her income. Additionally, she became the class representative and utilized her talent in hairstyling to earn extra money.

Phyna's hustle extended beyond the school grounds. She actively sought opportunities to showcase her dancing skills and participate in shows. These ventures not only allowed her to express her passion but also brought in additional income. Her resilient spirit and unwavering determination were evident as she saved as little as N50, always looking for ways to make ends meet.

After completing her formal education, Phyna went on to serve in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). During this time, she engaged in various part-time jobs, further expanding her skill set and building her network. It was during this period that she discovered her talent for hyping, a skill she honed by observing and emulating a club's hype guy. This newfound talent propelled her into the world of entertainment, opening doors and presenting her with new opportunities.

Even after achieving success as the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, Phyna remained committed to her hustle. Her friends, amazed by her relentless drive, pointed out that she continued to work as if she hadn't won any money. Phyna's response reflected her grounded perspective on financial stability. She understood that money could easily run out if not managed wisely, and thus, she remained focused on her hustle, ensuring she built a sustainable future for herself.

Phyna's journey from a young girl working in a restaurant at the age of three to a resilient and determined entrepreneur serves as an inspiration to many. Her experiences and hardships have shaped her into the strong and resourceful person she is today.
