Man Found on Fire at Penn Station Days After Woman Set Ablaze on NYC Subway

A 67-year-old man, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently in critical condition following a harrowing incident at New York City's Penn Station, where he was found ablaze. The unsettling occurrence unfolded just five days after a woman was fatally set on fire on a subway train in Brooklyn.

According to the New York City Police Department (NYPD), Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) officers were alerted to the situation around 8:10 p.m. on Friday, December 27. Amid the usual post-holiday hustle and bustle of the transit hub, chaos erupted when the man was discovered aflame in a "passageway," as reported by CBS News.

Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, locating the victim with severe burns affecting both his legs and upper torso. He was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he remains in a precarious state. Although the New York Fire Department described the injuries as grave, they were not immediately life-threatening when he was transported.

Authorities have not yet ascertained the cause of the fire, and it is unclear whether foul play was involved. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing, according to an NYPD spokesperson.

This unnerving episode follows another horrifying act of violence on December 22, when a man allegedly set a sleeping woman ablaze aboard a stationary F train at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station in Brooklyn. The assailant reportedly used a shirt to fan the flames, then sat and watched as she perished in the inferno. The motive behind this appalling act remains unknown.
