RCCG December Thanksgiving: A Global Day of Worship and Reflection

On Sunday, December 1, 2024, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) observed its much-anticipated monthly Thanksgiving Service. Congregations worldwide united in gratitude, and at RCCG Tower of Blessing Parish, located at Divine Step Close, Rumuokwuta, Port Harcourt, the atmosphere was spiritually uplifting. Led by Pastor Charles Emeagwa, members joined a live connection to the RCCG headquarters to partake in a sermon by the General Overseer, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, centered on the theme, “My Father’s House.”

Pastor E.A. Adeboye’s Transformative Sermon

The message, drawn from John 14:1-3, emphasized the temporary nature of life and humanity’s ultimate destination. Pastor Adeboye described life as a pilgrimage, likening the passage of time to a river flowing unceasingly.

He cited Genesis 47:7-9, where Jacob reflects on the brevity of his years, and Exodus 13:19, where Joseph’s faith in God’s promise is demonstrated as he requests the preservation of his bones for future generations.

Pastor Adeboye reminded congregants that aging is inevitable, saying, “No one asks how young a child is; we ask how old they are.” Death, he noted, is a journey all must undertake, regardless of status or wealth. Even biblical figures such as Elisha (2 Kings 13:14-21), who was mightily anointed, succumbed to mortality.

The General Overseer elaborated on the two eternal destinations:

  • Heaven: Entry to heaven, he said, is not tied to wealth or status but to one’s relationship with Christ.
  • Hell: Citing Isaiah 5:14, Pastor Adeboye warned that hell continually expands to accommodate more sinners, urging everyone to tread the narrow path that leads to eternal life (Matthew 7:13-14).

Highlighting humanity's proximity to the end times, Pastor Adeboye cited troubling societal trends as evidence. He urged Christians to strengthen their faith, backsliders to return to God, and non-believers to accept Christ.

The December Thanksgiving Service at RCCG was a profound reminder of life’s fleeting nature and the necessity of living with eternal purpose. As Pastor Adeboye concluded with a heartfelt prayer—“Father, whenever You decide to return, don’t let me be left behind”—congregants were inspired to assess their spiritual readiness.

Thanksgiving Activities

The local congregation transitioned into their celebration with offerings and prayers of gratitude. December celebrants, including those marking birthdays and anniversaries, were honored with a cake-cutting ceremony.

Cash prizes were awarded to winners of the parish’s quarterly exams, underscoring the community’s commitment to academic and spiritual growth.
